Google Wallet Now Works With All Credit Cards

Google Wallet, Google's mobile payments program, used to only work with MasterCard. However, Google has publicized that it will now work with all debit and credit cards.

One little step for Google Wallet

Apple, Google and Microsoft seem to be battling for the opportunity to rule the planet with their electronics. That is why they are expected to battle a lot over offering the product that gets rid of plastic cards and money forever in place of a smartphone. There are people waiting for that day to take place.

There are only a couple of systems out right now with the technology to "read" a chip in a smartphone that is perished to a credit or debit account. One of the available options is Google Wallet, Google's mobile and online payment system. The system now works with all cards out there, though originally it only worked with CitiBank debit and MasterCards, according to ArsTechnica. The payment reader simply reads the info and takes the right amount from the account.

One giant jump for mobile payments

TechCrunch publicized that almost all charge cards will be covered by the Google Wallet change. There will be few credit cards not covered since Discover, American Express, MasterCard and Visa are now all participating in the program.

There are not a lot of Google Wallet customers right now, but the change was for them. About half of Google's list of supported devices is Samsung. Other devices that will support Google Wallet contain the Asus Nexus 7 tablet, the LG Viper, the LG Optimus Elite and the HTC EVO5G LTE. There will be 8 devices used total. Sprint and Virgin Mobile have the biggest advantage because most of those devices are only accessible through them.

Other security benefits

The memory on a smartphone no longer stores the data; instead, it is stored on Google's secure servers. That means it is easier to avoid getting all sensitive info necessary for the purchase hacked. All you have to do is put in your account data for the card on the servers. You can also choose to wipe all financial data off the gadget with another brand new security benefits.

However, one issue with mobile payment products are that only a few retailers have terminals with NFC readers, so there are not too many stores one can actually use Google Wallet in. At the moment, the few devices that can use it can only be used in one of the few stores that can process the payment.
